Focus on print education​​​ at Romancing Print 2018

Romancing Print 2018, All India Federation of Master Printer's (AIFMP) flagship seminar was held in association with the Kerala Master Printers Association (KMPA) on Sunday, 24 June 2018 at Hotel Tripenta, Malampuzha, Palakkad, Kerala.

The day-long programme was inaugurated by Prameela Sasidharan, chairperson, Palakkad municipality.

“This was the first time a national seminar was held in Palakkad where nearly 150 delegates participated. Apart from KMPA members participants included printers, academicians, students and entrepreneurs from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. KMPA members and printers from Palakkad played a pivotal role in conducting this seminar,” said Rajesh G, honorary secretary of KMPA.

In his keynote, CN Ashok, managing director of Autoprint emphasised the relationship between manufacturer-printer and spoke at length about the need for training and awareness creation for the printer community.

A panel discussion on the topic "Print Education – Today and Tomorrow’ with heads of departments of top print education institutions of South India took place and was moderated by Dr Rajendrakumar Anayath, vice chancellor, DCRUST, Haryana. Dr B Kumar, HOD, printing department, Anna University, Vinod Kamath, assistant director, alumni, public and international relations, MIT, Manipal, Dr TKS Lakshmi Priya, HOD, printing department, Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore C Dinachandran, principal, Institute of Printing Technology and Government Polytechnic College, Shoranur, Palakkad and P Deepu, HOD- printing, Calicut University took part in the discussion.

The participants stressed on the need for the industry to play a more active role in the print education system with involvement in syllabus setting etc being discussed.

A talk on the future of printing and scientific costing by Kulakkada Pradeep, print consultant and CEO, Future Schoolz and Thomas George, motivational speaker respectively rounded up the day’s events.
