The 1.25-lakh sq/ft full-fledged automated corrugated carton production plant will be inaugurated on 24 January, 2015. The capability highlight of the plant is the high-speed 150 meter/minute line which will produce 2-ply, 3-ply and 5-ply litho-laminated boxes. The other products, that the plant will produce, are flexo printed corrugated boxes, offset printed mono carton with value additions like foiling, embossing and UV textured effect.

Last month, Canpac also announced that it will expand its Ahmedabad plant in Bavla with a Rs 21-crore investment in a 40,000 sq/ft space and machinery. The investment includes: a Heidelberg six-colour hybrid double-coater, and post-press and finishing machineries like Bobst gluer, Higher die-cutter and Wenchuyaan lamination machine.

The corrugation segment of packaging is considered to be Rs 10,000-crore industry, but a fragmented and disorganised one. There are around 125 to 200 big to medium players in that segment most of them doing huge amount of conversion.

Nilesh Todi, managing director of Canpac Trends, “That’s true. There are customers who are looking to improve their outer packaging’s strength and quality. There is a shift happening in a sense from unorganised to organised or from semi-automatic to automatic.” He added, “Today the way the customer is measuring the cartons has also changed. There are a number of quality and strength tests that are to be adhered to.”

Canpac’s client list boast of companies like Godrej, Amul, Cadila, Lux, and a string of mid-level growing brands.

Todi concluded, “Today customers are looking beyond the brown box. With the expansion, Canpac will not just sell boxes; it will go beyond just package.”
