Avinashilingam University celebrates Paper Day

The department of printing technology in Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore celebrated Paper day with a daylong programme.

The proceedings began with an orientation session by Dr TKS Lakshmi Priya, head, department of printing, Avinashilingam University where she spoke on the significance of Paper Day, the large-scale efforts taken by the paper traders associations across the country in promoting the use of paper and the role of printing engineers in utilising this resource diligently in the printing industry.

This was followed by a talk over Skype by Dr Amrutharaj H Krishnan, HOD of printing department, Manipal Institute of Technology on paper wastage.

The celebrations also included paper presentations, poster presentations and sample product-making for the students.

The theme of paper presentation was “Properties of paper for a specific product category”, which included presentations on properties of bond paper, coated paper, food-grade paper and cotton paper.

“Paper-making process” was the theme for poster presentation with entries focusing on process for kraft papers, tissue papers, textured papers, security papers and newspapers apart from hand-made and recycled papers. The posters covered lesser known ingredients for paper-making like banana, pineapple, cow-dung and more.

The final paper-product making event had “Brand Promotion” as the theme with students presenting paper-made trioramas, danglers, standees, dispensers, sign boards and packages, to promote their choice of product. One team made a paper stick, with cartoon pictures, as an alternate for balloon sticks, as compliments for kids.

Meanwhile, the department is said to have achieved accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
