Tech gyaan on posters

PrintWeek India received 36 poster samples as entries for Poster Printer of the Year 2012 Award which was bagged by Mumbai-based Silverpoint Press. Silverpoint won the Award for the Smirnoff posters produced for JWT; Mercedes Benz posters for Mercedes Benz India; and Parachute Advansed Calendar posters for Mac-Erickson.

The highlight of the unique Smirnoff poster with a run length of 100 copies was the metallic texture effect.

Pre-press: The pre-press activities were taken care by Agfa Apogee workflow and GMG colour management software.
Press: The four-colour poster was printed on a Heidelberg Sordz two-colour press in two passes using UV inks on 170gsm Lumi art paper. Cyan and magenta were printed in the first pass while yellow and black in the next.
Post-press: The printed sheets were laminated with a special textured pressure sensitive sheet and then cut to size.


The Mercedes Benz – MB poster was printed with standard ink density to achieve accurate colour depth.

Pre-press:  Agfa Apogee workflow and GMG colour management software accomplished the pre-press of the job.
Press: 5,000 copies of the poster were printed on 280gsm natural evolution white paper using a Heidelberg LX five-colour sheet-fed press with inline coater.
Post-press: After printing, the poster was cut to size.



Silverpoint submitted one more Mercedes Benz poster of which it printed 23,000 copies.

Pre-press:  Agfa Apogee workflow and GMG colour management software accomplished the pre-press of the job.
Press:   A Heidelberg LX five-colour sheet-fed press with inline coater was used to print on 170gsm Leykam art paper followed by a glossy aqueous coating which was added to the aesthetics of the poster.


The Parachute Advansed poster in the form of a promotional calendar was an innovative entry sample submitted by Silverpoint.

Pre-press:  Agfa Apogee workflow and GMG colour management software accomplished the pre-press of the job.
Press: The calendar is printed in four-colour on 280gsm Natural Evolution White paper while 200gsm Natural Evolution White was used for inserts. The calendar was printed in two pieces on Heidelberg LX press and later joined to make a single unit.The inserts were printed on a HP Indigo 3550 press. The outer box was printed on 170gsm Matt paper.
Post-press: The printed 170gsm Matt art paper for outer box is pasted on the corrugated sheets  and then die-punched and pasted to form outer box. The calendar is inserted in to the bos along eith two leaflets and packed and delivered to the client.
