SIES SOP Star Awards goes to 33 firms

The SIES School of Packaging presented the awards to the winners at the SIES SOP Star Awards 2021.

Winners of SOP Star awards qualify to participate in the WorldStar honours

The fifth edition had 96 entries, which is more than the previous year. Prasad Iyer, director, SIES School of Packaging mentioned how the packaging industry is returning to normalcy inspite of two tough years. He complimented, all the Star Award winners. He added, now they can get an opportunity to apply for WorldStar Awards 2023.

Totally 33 printing-packaging companies won the SIES SOP Star Awards 2021. Among the big winners, ITC had 13 wins, UFlex 11 and TCPL had seven wins. Other winners included MTR, Marico, Essel Propack, Asian Paints, Huhtamaki PPL, Cipla, Cavinkare, among others.

The award recognises technology and innovation in the packaging sector for its continuous efforts in innovation, creativity, and new developments across multiple product applications.

The event took place at SIES School of Packaging, Nerul on 10 April, 2022. The chief guest Piyush Goyal, minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs and food and public distribution and textiles, GOI spoke about how packaging is of prime importance in the growing consumer industry. Goyal addressed the event virtually.

The guest of honour was Chakravarthi AVPS, managing director at Ecobliss India. AVPS who also a global ambassador of the World Packaging Organisation and a board member for Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council, Government of India felicitated the winners along with Prasad Iyer and V Shankar, president, SIES.

The student award was bagged by Tejashree Amberkar, ICT, Mumbai who developed thermoregulated packaging. The project conceptualised beeswax as a phase change material, while using  a phase change temperature of 60 celsius.
