Owing to this surge in growth, a strong, packaging-premiumisation trend is now prominent in the alco-bev sector and is expected to grow further. This trend is linked to a number of factors that include brands currently moving beyond the glass seeking new consumers. Also, smaller pack sizes are gaining immense traction thanks to the influence it has on price-sensitive consumers. Further, there are many industry-specific trends waiting to be explored and capitalised.
Catering to the growing Indian-market demand, the country’s only trade show for beer, wine and spirit production technologies, Craft Drinks India took wings in Bengaluru in July 2018.
The debut edition of Craft Drinks India (CDI) attracted commercial breweries, distilleries, micro breweries and wineries from across India and globally. The international trade show marked two days of spirited networking by industry professionals and was effective in providing the perfect platform for the alco-bev ecosystem to meet, interact, deliberate and witness cutting-edge global technologies.
The concurrently-organised conference saw renowned speakers from the industry share their experience and knowledge with the audience. A vibrant workshop conducted by Versuchs-und Lehranstalt Für Brauerei (VLB) from Berlin included presentations on what goes into making a great beer; how human bodies detect and perceive sensory stimuli; introduction to common characteristics/off-flavours in beer; and exercises in typical beer flavours.
Brands such as USL, White Rhino, Bacardi, White Owl, Diageo, AB InBev, Paul John, Amrut Distilleries, Khodays Group, Arbor Brewing, Ph4 Beverages and Lion Brewery (Sri Lanka) were some of the prominent participants at Craft Drinks India 2018.
The event was jointly organised by PDA Trade Fairs and NürnbergMesse, the promoters of the globally recognised Beviale cluster of beverage events. The international exhibition and conference is currently the only comprehensive platform for the alco-bev production industry in India.
