Avery Dennison launches recycled and intelligent labelstocks

The labelstock major Avery Dennison has pushed the sustainability envelope at Labelexpo Europe with the launch of filmic and non-filmic facestocks produced from recycled materials.

Speaking to PrintWeek India, Pankaj Bhardwaj, senior director and general manager for the label and graphic materials in South Asia, Avery Dennison, said, “We have introduced a recycled paper facestock certified by FSC that is entirely made of post-consumer waste. It is an ideal product for the brand owners in India who have sustainability agenda on their cards.”

This facestock is said to be manufactured without chlorine bleaching, and the company claims that the facestock delivers similar whiteness and brightness as conventional alternatives, and converts as quickly.

“We are also showcasing a filmic product which has been made from recycled PE and the waste of the marble mining. This product works like synthetic papers,” added Bharadwaj.

Besides this, Avery Dennison has developed intelligent label products based on RFID and NFC technologies.

“The use of RFID-based labels was limited to apparel segment. Now, these are also being adopted in other segments like automotive and aviation. Our success with United Airlines and Qatar Airways for RFID-enabled baggage tags shows that there’s a lot of potentials even in the Indian aviation space,” said Bharadwaj.

 “We have got an encouraging response for our new products which will serve the interests of South Asian markets. I would have loved more turnout from the South Asian customers but I think the low turnout has also to do with the economic situations back home.”
