Avantika installs India’s first Canon Imagepress C8000VP

Delhi-based digital print powerhouse Avantika Printers has invested in a Canon Imagepress C8000VP. This is the first installation of the C8000VP engine in India. The machine was introduced in India in April 2017.

The new engine is expected to replace Avantika’s existing Canon Imagepress C7010VP. “The previous C7010VP was due for an upgrade, and we found C8000 to be the right upgrade for us,” MN Pandey of Avantika Printers said.

Pandey said as the technology in C8000VP engine is based on the previous C7000 series, many of the existing errors have already been resolved. Thus, Avantika is focusing on getting quicker turnaround time from the jobs produced on machine. “Our customers are only concerned about repeatability and accuracy of colour on jobs,” he said. “This machine helps us print on heavy textured paper, which was not possible earlier.”

On the first installation of the machine in India, Puneet Datta, director, Canon India, said, “The Imagepress C10000VP has proven itself to grow print volumes of our customers by up to three times. This will be possible thanks to the new technologies that have been incorporated in the system.

Datta said the machine helps deliver exceptional quality, high productivity and most importantly colour consistency.

“However, there are PSPs who don’t necessarily need the 100-page-per-minute speed, but are looking for a press that will still provide the same high quality, reliability, consistency and media handling of the C10000VP; for those PSPs, the C8000VP is the answer,” he added.

With markets moving from print-first to digital-first, it becomes increasingly imperative for printing organisation to continue reinventing. On this, Datta said he always believed in India’s potential to adopt digital printing. “We are proud to install the first C8000VP of India at Avantika Printers. Pandey has been at the forefront of digital printing and the proof lies in the multiple PrintWeek Awards he has won in the Digital Printer of the Year category. We have partnered with Avantika Printers for over 10 years now and Pandey has always been the first to buy many of our earlier launches of digital presses, be it Canon or Oce,” Datta added.

The Canon C8000VP at Avantika came with a fully loaded EFI B4000 Fiery.

“We treat all our different printing engines according to their capabilities,” Pandey said, “We, at Avantika, believe that all machines are technologically strong. The only way to take advantage of them is to use them correctly depends on what type of jobs it can produce. If you are printing jobs that are not designed for that engine, it’s not the machine’s fault, its operator’s fault. It means he has failed to exploit the technology provided to him,” Pandey said.

The company is considering approximately 10% growth after this investment. “We don’t consider ROI for these digital engines because we assume their lifespan is three years. So, by the time you will start getting ROI back, it’s time to upgrade to a new one,” Pandey added.

Avantika, the PrintWeek India Digital Printer of the Year 2016, was established in September 1988 and started its digital printing operations from 2007. Previously, the company had won the PrintWeek India Digital Printer of the Year Award for three years in a row. Recently, the company shifted its base from Garhi to Okhla Industrial Area.

“This year, we are focusing on streamlining our operations,” Pandey said.

Avantika is headed by Pandey, who looks after all the operations. Next in the line, Himanshu looks after the technical operations with Krishan doing the sales part.

Going ahead, Avantika is exploring other segments beside its core business — commercial digital printing. “We are focusing on wedding cards and notebooks to diversify using our current infrastructure,” Pandey said.
