This is the second exhibition, the earlier one being Gulf Food, which Welbound is a part of. The region is a mature market for modern packaging systems, and usage of hotmelt adhesives for sealing shipper carton is prevalent.

Pallippuram Sajith, director - marketing and sales at Welbound, is also a speaker at the conference which is concurrent to the show. His topic is: Innovative Packaging: Shaping the Future of Packaging, Reducing Costs and Improving Functionality.

Welbound will showcase the HC500 which is an inline or nearline solution for case-sealing shipper cartons. It employs the Nordson Problue 4 melter - mini blue plus gun adhesive applicating system.

According to Sajith, "Hotmelt glue case sealing offers a number of benefits in comparison to a taping. The structural integrity of the boxes, as a result of all major and minor flaps, joined together by the glue lines, ensure that the boxes never loses its shape in transit. This also enhances the load and shock bearing capability. Flexible packed products are safe inside a glued box, as one does not need a cutter to slit the tapes while opening. Corrugate saving is another major advantage, as the width of major flaps could be reduced, and glue sealing is also more sustainable, green."

The top and bottom of the boxes filled with products are sealed at 20 cases per minute. An optional infeed conveying system centralises, the box coming out of the filling station, end of the line. The controller can store up to 99 programs of various sizes of boxes and gluing patterns. It also provides adhesive bead control - normal, dot, stitch, random and continuous. Sajith explained, Welbound integrates the machine into existing packaging lines, addressing special requirements, if any.

"Above all, hotmelt sealing  makes the shipping cartons tamper evident. This probably is one huge benefit that makes this type of sealing the most preferred by brands that command a premium in the marketplace", said V S Sudheeran, Welbound's GCC head.

Welbound has a presence in GCC countries and a market share in adhesive binding machines. The Welbound engineers based in UAE and Saudi Arabia would provide installation and service support to the HC 500 customers.
