Sumit Chakraborty, regional finance manager and ERP project lead at Golden Era, said, “With growing demand and steady growth of our group, ERP was inevitable. We did not have any ERP in the production environment prior to Param. We were looking for a package that is customisable, user-friendly, and can be integrated with our existing systems.”

In 1942, Chotoo Govan and Bhoola Chhita started a company with two flat millinery paper bag-making machines. Later, Magan Rama joined the business becoming the third partner. Thus in 1955, New Era Paper Bags was formed. That same year, with the purchase of its first Heidelberg Platen 12×18-inch machine, Golden Era Printers was formed primarily manufacturing fliers and booklets. Later the focus shifted to folding cartons which today forms its core business. Over the years, the group ventured into corrugation, labels, plastics, metal cans and paper manufacturing.

Chakraborty said, “It is over five decades now that the reign has shifted from the founders to the second generation of shareholders. Today, Golden Era Group encompasses Golden Era Printing and Packaging, New Era Packaging, New Era Labels, Waxpak, New Era Paper Bags, Gayatri Paper Mills and Gayatri Cans.”

The first phase of execution has begun and is expected to go live on 1 March 2017 with one of the companies within the group.

“We have high expectations from Param. In the initial phase, we look forward to eliminating bottlenecks in production planning and sales. With Param, we see potential savings in manpower in production planning and execution stages,” added Chakraborty.
