Delhi-based Pearl Printers, established in 1998, made its biggest investment with the installation of a new Ryobi four-colour sheetfed press.

The press, which arrived at the shopfloor around 40 days ago, is equipped with online coating facility and can print sheets of 25x36inches.

The proprietor, Ashwani Thapar, said he opted for the Ryobi for three reasons. One, the feeder is equipped with a double sucker; two, the delivery is sturdy at the speed of more than 10,000 impressions an hour and three, the positive feedback from the market.

Pearl Printers is equipped with an in-house four-up Screen CTP and consumes around 250 thermal plates a day. The printing segment is equipped with 17 printing units – two five-colour Heidelberg, one two-colour and one single-colour Heidelberg and the recently installed Ryobi four-colour with coater. The company’s finishing segment is equipped with multiple cutting, folding, sewing, creasing and small fabrication machines.

Thapar, a first generation printer and a self-made entrepreneur, has more than three decades of hands-on training in the print industry. He joined the industry as a helper in 1981 and worked in two printing companies, before starting out on his own in 1998.

His dedication to work can be seen in his focus on sanitation and management of the facility. The shopfloor is neat and clean, and marked with fluorescent strips. Even the old printing presses are well preserved. Also, raw material, like paper, inks and consumables, are well stacked. Now, Thapar wants to start an in-house stationery brand. “If you want to run for a long time, then you have to establish yourself as a brand,” he said.

On his way to consolidate his position as a brand, Thapar refuses to compromise on quality. “Our quote for the job may seems to be on the higher side. But with the best quality plates, consumables, and inks we can produce the best of quality of print,” he added.

Beside Pearl Printers, Thapar also heads Varun Printline, a sister concern. In the facility of around 20,000 sq/ft, Pearl works round-the-clock with more than 100 people, among which 35 are on payroll and the rest are on contracts. The company gets work from more than 200 clients, 150 of which are account holders with Pearl.

On further investments, he concluded that we will be opting for an eight-up CTP platesetter.
