A number of Indian printing firms say that they are the ultimate green printing company. So which Indian printing company is the greenest? Is it the one who is least environmentally damaging? The one that is emitting the lowest level of greenhouse gases and no CO2? The one with the most environment certifications?

PrintWeek India introduced  the Green Printing Company of the Year Award last year, primarily to promote improvements in print companies environmental performance. The category saw support from ITC Paperboard and Specialty Paper Division.

According to S N Venkatraman, vice president - marketing at ITC's paperboards and specialty papers division (PSPD), as a part of its commitment to support green and eco-friendly initiatives, ITC has continued the role of sponsor of the Performance category of the PrintWeek India Green Printing Company of the Year Award.

The printing industry faces numerous challenges in resource efficiency; energy utilisation; and disposal of inks, chemicals and print waste.

Venkatraman said, “As the leader in paperboards and papers for the packaging and graphic industries, through the sponsorship of this award, we would like to foster an environment of responsible, sustainable growth for the print industry and assist print buyers in making environmentally informed choices.”

For Repro India, the winner of the first PWI Green Printing Company of the Year 2014, it is “imbibed in nature” to use environmentally-friendly ways and methods in the printing business. Repro India is certified ISO 9001-2008, ISO14000–2004, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) & PEFC (Programme for Endorsement for Forest Certification) for our quality, environment and green initiative practices.

“We bring efficiencies to our customer’s value chain by providing them a one-stop solution to their needs, right from managing and repurposing content, to printing and binding to delivery anywhere across the globe,” says Kunal Vohra of Repro India.

A webinar titled, “What is your green quotient?”, jointly organised by PrintWeek India and ITC-PSPD, will be held on 23 July. The interactive discussion will help companies gauge their eco-friendly quotient.

During the webinar, top printers will share their green checklist, highlighting the details of their initiatives on the green front. They will also enlighten their efforts in environmental protection. Plus focus on projects that enable energy efficiency and reduction.
