Kalnirnay can be downloaded on an Apple iPhone and iPad

Now one can download Kalnirnay on an Apple iPhone or iPad. At an official function in Mumbai on 6 January, Paul Folmsbee, USA's consul general formally launched the appplication.

Folmsbee launched it in the presence of Jayraj Salgaonkar, the managing director of Kalrnirnay and Kumar Ketkar, editor of Loksatta.

Speaking on the occasion, Folmsbee said: "Apple epitomises technology in the 21st century." He admitted that "He took his iPad to bed in order to download books and applications."

Folmsbee who has a special affinity to India because he grew up in Tamil Nadu, said: "The availability of India’s largest almanac on iPad is a fusion of India and USA is very exciting." He added: "I will be adding the application to my iPad."

Jayraj Salgaonkar, managing director of Kalnirnay, said: "Now Apple users can download the yearly panchaang, regular work notes, and festive updates. Also one can get reminders for Sankashti every month along with information about lunar events, tithis, monthly panchang, viva muhurta  and holidays."

Right now the applications are available in Marathi – and it will be launched in English and Gujarat, soon.
The application has been jointly developed with Expersis Software of USA, a mobile application developer.

The print edition of Kalnirnay Calmanac is available in seven languages and sell more than 16 million copies per annum. Of this the Marathi Kalnirnay constitutes 64 lakh copies.

In 2010, the group had launched Kalnirnay for mobile phone users. This meant users of Idea, BSNL, Tata Indicom and Reliance are availing text and voice services for daily and weekly forecast, Rahu Kaal and Shubh Kaal, panchang, mantras and even prayers.
