Industry majors showcase their best at the Indiapack show

The fifth edition of Indiapack 2013, organised by Indian Institute of Packaging at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai, witnessed 125 exhibitors including 11 overseas exhibitors take part in the show. Spread across 5,500 sq/ft exhibition area, the show saw a footfall of over 10,000 visitors.

AkzoNobel launches EvCote recyclable barrier coatings

AkzoNobel, one of the leading manufacturers of barrier coatings, has unveiled EvCote range of water-based barrier coatings at Indiapack 2013. EvCote product range comprises water-based PET coatings that are produced from reclaimed and recycled post-consumer municipal-waste materials.

Rahul Tikoo, regional business manager, South Asia and Thailand, said, “The EvCote products are recyclable and indicate AkzoNobel’s commitment towards sustainability. The paper or paperboard treated with EvCote can be recycled easily without the need of separation as in case of plastic laminated paperboard.”

The coatings provide barrier against moisture, oil and grease and are suitable for food packaging applications. They can be used in a wide spectrum of paper and packaging applications from food service disposable packaging, folding carton board, corrugated, POP displays etc.

“It also provides opportunities for paper manufacturers without PE lamination or extrusion capability to participate in the barrier paper market,” added Tikoo.

The company had exhibited at Indiapack 2010 and Tikoo feels that the response from the visitors at this edition of the show was impressive. Besides EvCote, AkzoNoble showcased various coating solutions for frozen food industry and metal can coatings.

 

Pidilite highlights its adhesive solutions

Pidilite Industries highlighted their adhesive solutions for converting and packaging industry at the Indiapack 2013 exhibition.  

Their industrial adhesive product ranges include Fevicol, Pidicol, Pidivyl, and Pidiglow for various converting operations such as carton making, pasting, corrugated sheet pasting, lamination, varnishing etc.

Pradeep Bodkhe, regional sales manager (West), Pidilite Industries, said, “Basic consumption of Indian buyer is increasing and this growth will continue in years to come. At this exhibition we focused on converters especially the mid-sized print-packaging companies.”

Besides converting and packaging segments, Pidilite also highlighted its hotmelt range of adhesives for book binding. “We have an extensive range of adhesive solutions for various industries and in addition we also supply speciality and tailormade products.”

 

Holoflex focuses on anti-counterfeiting

Kolkata-based Holoflex, a manufacturer of hologram and allied products showcased its anti-counterfeiting solutions at the show.

Their product basket comprised of security hologram labels, holographic packaging materials, shrink sleeves for bottle caps, stamping foils, holographic strip transfers, security seals etc.

Prashant Mulasi, head - business development, Holoflex, said, “The awareness towards anti-counterfeiting is at nascent stage in India. 8-10% of the packaging market use hologram. This indicates the huge potential for growth."

Holoflex has complete in-house facility to manufacture holograms which include metallising, coating, lamination and holographic embossing of products. “The entire production cycle from engraving to finishing is carried out at a single location and is subject to the most rigorous production and quality control procedures. Our manufacturing setup has all that are required for advanced manufacturing of security holograms, flexible films and material,” added Mulasi.

The company works with the customer to create custom anti-counterfeiting solutions with covert security features. “As every operation is done in-house, there is no chance of duplication of hologram.”

Hutamaki-PPL showcases its patent technology

Hutamaki – Paper Products Limited (PPL) showcased its patented technology of unique coded packs along with other products at the Indiapack show. The new unique random code technology is a concept of printing certain alpha-numeric codes in the intermediate layers of laminate of a pack and consumer on buying this pack interacts with the code in the pack,which serves as a medium for winning gifts, etc.

According to Durga Konduri, deputy manager, Hutamaki-PPL, "The main feature of this code is that it allows an excellent medium for the brand to effectively communicate with the end customer at individual level and also provides security to the pack." She further added, "We will be aggressively marketing this patent technology."

PPL tied-up with Hutamaki, a packaging solutions provider, in the year 1999. Hutamaki-PPL is into consumer packaging segment. Konduri said, “The Hutamaki and PPL synergy have opened up new avenues in the flexible packaging segment and the relationship has helped us both in terms of knowledge and technology transfer”

PPl was established in 1935 and offers a wide portfolio of packaging solutions that include flexible packaging, labelling technology and specialised cartons segment. Hutamaki-PPL has three manufacturing facilities at Thane, Silvassa and Hyderabad.

Dupont’s Tyvek grade and usage on the climb

The trend is moving towards quality and “packaging first”, said Mohnish Grewal, sales manager for Tyvek and Sontara at Dupont India, who was present at the Dupont stand at India Pack 2012. “Customers are looking at how packaging can add value to the products,” he says.

At the show, Dupont is showcasing Tyvek and its applications – usage in industries such as pharma, automobile, agriculture and medical and commercial and wide-format applications.

Though Dupont made its direct entry into the Indian market eleven years ago, Tyvek was used by Indian converters some 22 years ago. “Converters then imported 50,000-60,000 sqm of Tyvek stock. Today it has touched 50-lakh sqm,” said Grewal.

Further Dupont has over the years upgraded the Tyvek technology, making it liquid resistant and breathable. “Tyvek’s strength is controlled now and is available in 20 different grades for different applications, including food grade,” said Grewal.

Windmoller & Holscher opts for catalogue show

Windmoller & Holscher opted for a catalogue show at the Indiapack 2013 exhibition. Their bouquet of products include blown film and cast film extrusion machine, flexographic printing, gravure printing and laminating machinery and also FFS packaging applications and industrial sacks.

Anuj Sahni, assistant manager - marketing, W&H said, “Since there is more awareness about packaging more and more people are opting for new technology and this year we intend to sell at least ten machines.” He further added that, “Flexographic printing is seeing a positive trend and Miraflex CM a high quality CI flexo press is our star product. We also offer end to end solution for packaging and printing converters.”

Germany-based Windmoller & Holscher was established 140 years back and are suppliers of machinery and systems for production and converting of flexible packaging. W&H are currently in operation in about 130 countries and has installed around 5,000 plants worldwide. They offer a range of machinery for the production of flexible packaging as well as in the entire production process from resin pellets to the final package.

Ajanta Print Arts showcases inmould label solutions for the first time

Mumbai-based packaging print firm, Ajanta Print Arts, showcased various label and printed folding carton solutions at the show. This is for the first time the packaging firm is participating in a show.

Vivek Khanna, director, Ajanta Print Arts, said, “We have exhibited for the first time and wanted to get close to print buyers. At the show, the buyers will get to see and learn the label and packaging solution that we are able to offer.”

Ajanta Print Arts produces litho-laminated folding cartons, plastic cartons, blister cards, shelf-ready pack, self-adhesive and inmould labels.
