One of GBO, New Delhi’s primary goals at this year’s NDWBF will be to promote the translation of German books to diverse Indian languages. “We have invited published translations of German works into Indian languages, and vice-versa, from publishers across the country. These books will be a part of our Wall of Translation display,” Prashasti Rastogi, director, GBO New Delhi, said.

Keeping in sync with the theme of this year’s NDWBF, GBO will also be presenting a book collection on nature. Recently, more and more publishers have been dedicating exceptionally attractive titles to ‘nature writing’. Literary releases, the Karl Marx collection, and the Best German Book Design 2016 collection are among the others that we will be displaying as a part of our German contemporary book collection.

Total 50 original German titles from 26 publishers and their English translations from 53 publishers in the US, the UK, and the Commonwealth will be a part of the feature ‘Books on Tour’. This selection demonstrates the broad range of recent German titles available in English translation. This multifaceted collection, which includes fiction, non-fiction and children’s books, was compiled by ‘New Books in German’ collective and the German Book Office, New York.

German Book Office New Delhi, as a part of its participation at the NDWBF, will also be organising the following events.

Globalocal Roundtable

Do mainstream publishers have any political responsibility, if yes, who defines it? In times of Trumpian dystopia, neo-Nazis, Karniseva and others, will voices from more extreme wings of find a bigger foothold in publishing? How’s the business of books embroiled in mainstream political discourse? The Globalocal Talk 2018 will open up the stage to talk about how book publishing identifies itself in the political scenario. The talk aims to bring together publishers, authors and to assess the obstacles there are in creating an inclusive environment, and to think about the way forward.
