Helmuth Munter, segment manager for label and packaging printing at Durst, said, “The new Tau 330E has been engineered with a particular attention to equipment cost while maintaining print quality and printing speed, allowing small companies to enter into digital label production.”

The Tau 330E can be configured with print width of 200mm or 330mm and with four colours (CMYK) or five colours (CMYK+white). It uses Xaar 1002 single pass print heads and can print at speeds of up to 48 linear meters per minute in a choice of two resolution – 720x360dpi and the HD print mode at 720x1260dpi.

One of the major concerns of the small and medium level label players is the cost of ownership. “By developing a new high impact ink pigment, we have reduced the ink cost by 25%, provide a new single printhead replacement and reduced the consumable costs, while keeping the print quality intact,” said Munter.

The cost of the new Tau 330E will cost 35% less than the Tau 330 press. “We have put in great effort to bring the cost down, and make it affordable to the small and medium market segment,” said Munter.

The Xeikon stand also had on display the Tau 330 UV inkjet press. Durst has more than 50 customers of Tau 330 globally, 70% of which are in Europe, 15% in North America and rest in Asia. Seven of its customers have more than one Durst installed.

The Tau 330 was also on display at the Printum stand, with a range of finishing options such as print buffer, web turning bar, registered feeding of pre-printed web for sandwich labels, delam and relam for adhesive, multiple flexo printing stations, lamination and label dispensers, rotary die-cutting with sheet delivery, slitting unit and semi-automatic turret re-winder.
