Udaipur-based Miraj expands in to packaging printing

Udaipur-based Miraj Multicolour inaugurated a packaging plant on 18 October, 2013. The newly established plant covers 1,50,000 sq/ft area in a three-storey building.

On the occasion, Madan Paliwal, chairman, Miraj Group stated, "The newly established packaging printing plant will help us to capture the growing opportunities in the market. We believe it is a high growth segments. And since we are a first of its kind plant in Rajasthan, we are envisioning huge opportunities."

Miraj Multicolour, established in 2001, belongs to the Miraj Group. The company claims a strong presence in manufacturing, exporting and supplying of quality school, office and other paper bound stationery products. The packaging printing division was started in 2010.

Paliwal said that the company is proud to be the first to establish such a packaging printing plant in the region. "We will be able to profit from our competitive advantage."

The newly established plant is equipped with five-colour Heidelberg CD102 printing press with supplementary presses. In addition, there is a Bobst Novacut 106 and Visionfold 110A2, Perfecta paper cutting machine and other equipment in the finishing part of the facility. The pre-press is outsourced, and soon the company is planning to establish an in-house department.

Krishan Gopal Sharma, director, Miraj Multicolour, said, “There is no printing plant of this scale in the region. We feel, Udaipur is well connected to other industrial parts of the country, through all modes of transportation. So the opportunities are huge and we are ready for it.”

“Right now we are running our plant 18-hours and hopefully we will be operating round-the-clock within a few months,” Sharma added.

On the return on investment (ROI), Sharma said that as per the industry and investment norms, it takes around three years and he is, "very optimistic that Miraj will recover it".
 

Miraj Multicolour, the ISO 9001:2008 company eyes pharma, tobacco, masala, automobiles companies as well as FMCG. Sharma explained that the next phase of expansion will be in corrugation; and subsequently in flexible packaging; in order to cater to the printing needs of customers from under roof. 

The stationery manufacturing and commercial and packaging printing facility converts more than 1200 tons of duplex board and 700 tons of paper per month. The company is planning to export their products in six months. 

In 2011, the company has commissioned its first fully automatic exercise book production machine Alpha RF from ECH WILL at its stationery manufacturing plant in Udaipur. Plus they have upgraded it to double reel from single reel and converting 28 tons of paper per day.

Presently, Miraj Multicolour manufacturers products like composition books, long books, note books, drawing books, jumbo books, graph books, practical books, geometry books, college books, note pad, conference  pad, cash memo, pocket memo, duplicate books, voucher books, spiral pad, punch paper, dusta paper, continuous computer stationery and others.

The ISO 9001:2008 company is planning additional certification especially for food packaging. The Rs 40-crore company operates from a five-lakh sq/ft manufacturing plant and has a staff of 150 persons. The staff strength will be 200, soon.
