On the bustling floor of the Bombay Exhibition Centre, SPS Packaging, a unit of Sumat Pershad and Sons, has signalled its intent to dominate the northern packaging market. The company officially announced the purchase of a brand-new Bobst SP 106 Evo die-cutter on the second day of Pamex 2026, marking a pivotal shift from manual to fully automated production.
The deal is a significant move for SPS Packaging, which, despite its parent group’s 80-year heritage in paper trading, is a relatively new entrant in the packaging conversion space. Based out of Sonipat, the company began its dedicated packaging operations just over a year ago.
"We have been paper traders for eight decades, and our stationery vertical has been converting 2,000-tonnes of paperboard monthly for over 20 years," said Abhishek Jain, managing director of SPS Packaging. "However, for our new facility in Sonipat, we realised that manual die-cutters were no longer enough to support our growth and the high expectations of our clientele."
The decision to go with Bobst SP Evo 106 was the result of extensive research, including a visit to the Bobst manufacturing plant in Pune and numerous consultations with industry peers.
"This is our first automatic die-cutter, and we wanted it to be the best," Jain emphasised. "We looked at second-hand machines and several other brands, but the Bobst SP 106 Evo offered the perfect balance of cost-effectiveness and the extreme reliability we need to scale our business. It’s an impressive model that fits our budget without compromising on the best-in-class quality."
Sautam Mukherjee, business head of SPS Packaging, who was present at the signing, noted that the SP 106 Evo is designed specifically for companies like SPS that are ready to leap into high-productivity folding carton production.
"We aren't just looking to sustain; we are looking to expand," Jain added. "With this Bobst installation, we are equipping ourselves to increase our sales and venture into more complex packaging segments with total confidence."
