At Pamex, Java Paper Group, which has operated for over 40 years, is showcasing specialised paper and boards sourced through partnerships with Indian and European mills. Hema Java, sales and marketing manager at Java Paper Group, noted that the company’s strategy focuses on premium imports from Sweden, Germany, and the Czech Republic. These products target specific market demands for substrates that are not currently manufactured by local Indian mills.
The company introduced three primary products at the exhibition, focusing on food-safe packaging and recycled materials. The first is ITC Oak Duo, a new launch from India’s largest paper mill. The all-brown folding box board is made from virgin fibre and, being food-safe and unbleached, it is positioned for the food segment — demonstrated at the show through paper cups and popcorn packaging — as well as for premium cosmetic branding.
Another featured product is Invercote Touch, produced by Sweden-based Holmen Iggesund. This solid bleached board is uncoated and designed for pharmaceutical and cosmetic end-uses where a natural tactile feel is required, while maintaining the structural integrity necessary to prevent cracking during complex folding.
Additionally, a recent partnership with the German mill Koehler has introduced a range of premium coloured boards. These are 100% recycled and FSC-certified, a combination that Java described as a unique technical offering in the coloured paper market.
Java Paper Group also released two exclusive catalogues at the show: a swatch book and a larger volume titled Touch, Texture, Detail. These are designed to demonstrate the printing and finishing capabilities of their exclusive range, including embossing and foil stamping on recycled black papers. The catalogues serve as a reference for designers to observe how different substrates, such as the brown Oak Duo board, react to specific print effects and high-pressure embossing.
In terms of industry trends, Java identified a growing preference for earthy aesthetics within the Indian market. While coated surfaces remain essential for high-vibrancy printing, there is an increasing shift toward natural finishes, particularly in food packaging.
Java observed that many brands are moving towards a more natural look and noted that the use of virgin fibre brown boards addresses common issues found in standard craft boards, such as odour, making them more suitable for premium food brands.
