As part of the Print Summit 2026 session, industry veteran Iqbal Kherodawala selected Amit Shah of Spectrum Scan as his maverick for the year. Kherodawala introduced Amit Shah as a visionary who challenges conventional boundaries. The video presentation on him traced Shah’s remarkable journey from starting his company, Spectrum Scan, in 1987 with minimal capital to becoming a globally recognised innovator in screen printing and thermoforming technologies.
The video documented Shah’s early struggles and determination to revolutionise screen printing by introducing four-colour (CMYK) printing techniques, which were previously considered nearly impossible within the segment. Despite facing technical challenges, limited resources and repeated failures, Shah continued experimenting with equipment, inks and processes to achieve offset-quality results through screen printing. His perseverance ultimately transformed the industry and earned international recognition.
The video also showcased Shah’s pioneering work in thermoforming technology, where he and his team spent nearly two years developing advanced printing techniques that maintained design accuracy even after material reshaping. Kherodawala praised these achievements as examples of extraordinary innovation driven by passion and risk-taking.
Beyond business success, the video highlighted Shah’s philanthropic initiatives and his personal interests, including marathon running, culinary pursuits and his educational achievements, including completing an executive programme at Stanford University later in life.
Kherodawala noted that these accomplishments demonstrated Shah’s belief in lifelong learning and self-improvement.
A major highlight featured in the video was Shah’s ambitious project of constructing a life-sized model train installation for an industry exhibition. Though the project generated no direct business revenue, it received widespread public attention and industry appreciation, symbolising innovation without commercial pressure.
Concluding the presentation, Kherodawala described Shah’s journey as an inspiration for industry professionals, emphasising that true leadership lies in experimentation, resilience and societal contribution. He encouraged attendees to adopt a similar spirit of innovation and storytelling to strengthen the industry’s future.
