Industry consolidates with upgrades from Bobst, Mark Andy, Epson, Rhyguan, Dayuan

The Indian packaging industry is experiencing a wave of strategic investments and technological advancements across various segments, including pharmaceutical cartons, labels, and corrugated packaging. Recent developments highlight a focus on enhancing efficiency, meeting international standards, and boosting production capacity.

Bengaluru-based Nice Prints, which specialises in pharmaceutical packaging, has installed a Bobst Visionfold 80 A2 with Accubraille. This upgrade is set to optimise pharma carton production by integrating Braille embossing and folding-glueing into a single pass, significantly reducing setup time and improving consistency. The Visionfold 80 A2 is a versatile machine capable of handling various materials and offers flexibility in box design. This investment not only improves quality and speed but also enhances Nice Prints' ability to meet urgent delivery demands, particularly for the European market, where Braille embossing is mandatory.

Mumbai-based Barcom Industries has expanded its label printing capabilities with the installation of two new Mark Andy Pro Series label presses from Flexo Image Graphics (FIG). These additions to Barcom's existing portfolio of Mark Andy machines are expected to improve print quality and productivity, meeting the ever-increasing demands for premium print outputs in quick turnaround times. Barcom, which serves a league of reputed brands across key sectors like FMCG, beverage, and pharmaceutical, has also expanded its client base into the international market.

Prateek Graphics, a Sonipat-based printer, is accelerating its digital label printing with the installation of the Epson SurePress L-6534V. This high-speed, six-colour digital label press with UV curing and white ink capabilities marks a significant step in the company's transition from traditional metal printing to a modern, digitally driven label printing business. The Epson SurePress is playing a critical role in producing a wide range of labels with unmatched print quality, lower wastage, and more efficient material reuse. Prateek Graphics plans to diversify into shrink sleeves and pouches as part of its continued growth strategy, aiming to capture momentum in the growing Indian label market.

Kolkata-based DE Converter India has strengthened its label and packaging capabilities with the installation of a Gallus Labelmaster 440. This new press, joining the company's existing flexo capacity, is expected to increase output by 10–12% in volume and up to 25% in net profit. The modular design of the Gallus Labelmaster 440 enables future upgrades, such as digital plug-in modules, and its eight-colour configuration plus two die-cutting stations is optimised for DE Converter's mix of tea-tags, FMCG labels, and specialised short-run packaging.

Kundli, Haryana-based Print Panache Packaging Solutions (PPS) recently invested in a Rhyguan Smart-450 slitting and rewinding system with Luster camera for 100% fault detection. Supplied and installed by Flexo Image Graphics (FIG), this high-speed slitter-rewinder is an automated system for adding new value to varied products of customers, helping them sell their brands and boost businesses faster than ever. The machine is highly user friendly and robustly built with advanced servo technology providing perfect web control.

Pondicherry-based Nithya Packaging, a prominent packaging player and substantial supplier of papers, has invested in a Dayuan BHT-1650FC die-cutting machine from Robus India. This fully automated 'Excellence Series' die-cutter is designed and ideally engineered for high speed and precise cutting of diverse materials. The die-cutting system is built robustly with full of automated features which can handle demanding requirements for quality packaging graphics and print requirements from Nithya's vast client base.
