According to Anuj Bhargava of Kumar Labels, the construction of the 25,000sq/ft new facility at Greater Noida was completed within 48 days. “The move took five days. We used 65 trucks. Everything was done by our team,” he added, saying that the company has acquired an adjacent plot of 1800sq/m.

Bhargava said for SRTF, a patented technology, which is single release with two faces, “The applicator is ready and will be displayed at LabelExpo Europe,” he said.

Bhargava said the new labelstock technology is more environment-friendly, and more economical. “It will benefit everyone,” he added. “It offers dual printing in one go. With this, the machine suppliers will be able to sell longer machines, and converters will be able to convert more in one pass. With this, changeover time will be less and the storage will be more.”

The only reservation, according to Bhargava, is that it prints the same job on both sides. “On the plus side, we can reduce liner thickness because we have layers on both sides. We can go up to 15 microns, while normally we use 23 microns,” he said.

Bhargava claimed that just 1% penetration of the SRTF will save 40,000 trees in India. “This is with the conventional liner thickness. If you reduce the thickness, say 30 microns from 60 microns, then we can save 68,000 trees,” he said, adding that for using SRTF, anyone can seek for licences from Kumar Labels.

Bhargava said the research and development of the technology was supported by the Department of Science and Technology, government of India through their TIFAC division. SIDBI was also a key partner.

“We are not looking at windfall profits. We are looking at nominal profits, which will pay for our future R&D,” he said.

The motto of Hassle Free is ‘innovate to save,’ said Bhargava. “What is the point of innovating if you are not giving the value to you customers? You must be able to do more with less. If you cannot achieve this, then there is no point in innovation,” he added.
