Omni Systems, a US-based provider of labels for logistics, food, and consumer packaged goods sectors, has expanded its digital printing capabilities through its ongoing partnership with Domino. The company has installed multiple Domino K600i digital UV inkjet printers over the past several years to improve efficiency, scalability, and output quality.

The company currently operates three K600i units at its Cleveland, Ohio facility, including two 558-mm (22-inch) dual-bar units and one 445-mm (17-inch) single-bar unit. These installations support high-volume production of variable data and sequential barcode labels. In addition, Omni Systems recently installed a 445-mm (17-inch) single-bar K600i unit at its St. Louis, Missouri facility to support expansion into the prime label segment.

"We pride ourselves on delivering the best price and highest quality in the market. Our ability to scale and provide cost-effective solutions set us apart from the competition, and Domino helps us with that,” Dean Ketchum, business development manager, Omni Systems

AJ Newkirk, continuous improvement manager at Omni Systems, added, "Omni Systems has always focused on delivering low-cost, high-quality labels with exceptional service. Our continued investment in digital printing, particularly with the Domino K600i technology, allows us to remain at the forefront of efficiency and innovation while meeting our customers’ evolving needs."

Digital adoption and early investment

Omni Systems began its digital printing journey in 2013 with the installation of its first Domino K600i system. Initially acquired to serve a single customer requirement, the technology enabled the company to expand its capabilities into high-volume variable data printing. The company has since collaborated with a major global retailer to develop barcode labels used in logistics and shipping operations worldwide.

Technology overview

The Domino K600i is a monochrome digital UV inkjet system designed for printing variable data on coated and uncoated substrates across web and sheet applications. It is typically integrated with flexo presses, rewinders, or finishing systems.

The system can print at speeds of up to 150-metres per minute (492-fpm) at 600-dpi in a dual-bar configuration, and up to 75-metres per minute (246-fpm) in a single-bar setup. Standard print widths range from 108-mm to 558-mm.

Production scale and throughput

At its Cleveland facility, Omni Systems operates on a 24/5 production schedule, producing between 6.5-million and 8-million labels every 24 hours on its 558-mm dual-bar K600i units. The dual-bar configuration enables higher throughput while maintaining print consistency for large-scale jobs.

“The ability to print high-quality, variable data labels at scale is more important than ever. As customer needs continue to evolve, particularly with the rise of QR codes and GS1’s Sunrise 2027 initiative, we are well-positioned to provide innovative solutions that meet modern supply chain demands,” Mike Murton, president, Omni Systems

Partnership outlook

Omni Systems’ continued investment in digital printing reflects a broader shift towards data-driven labelling and supply chain integration. The company’s partnership with Domino has supported its transition from barcode label production to broader applications, including prime labels.

Gary Peterson, Sr. Account Manager – Variable Data Printing, Domino, said, “Omni Systems’ commitment in utilising digital printing, specifically for variable data applications, has made this collaboration incredibly successful. Seeing how their use of the K600i has evolved over the years is a testament to their forward-thinking approach.”

As demand for variable data and track-and-trace solutions increases, Omni Systems is positioning its digital infrastructure to address evolving requirements across logistics and consumer markets.
