Digital print experience centre opens in Kolkata's print packaging hub
A new experience centre showcasing sheetfed digital printing and finishing equipment has opened its doors at 50, Surya Sen Street, Kolkata, in the heart of Eastern India's print packaging high street. The initiative, spearheaded by a group of local entrepreneurs and Amitabh Luthra of Printers Supply Co, aims to provide access to the latest digital printing technology for visitors from across the region.

Located just a five-minute walk from Sealdah station, the centre is strategically positioned to welcome upcountry visitors, eliminating the need to navigate the city's complex transportation. The facility offers live demonstrations of a range of equipment from leading manufacturers including Fujifilm (Apeos 6502, 3570), Konica Minolta (c 251i), and Canon (TM 5250).
In addition to digital printers, the centre features selected print finishing equipment, such as the Smartcut 4098 paper cutting machine and the Correcta power stitching machine. Various sundry items like eyelet punches, wiro/spiral punching and inserting tools, round corner cutters, and manual trimmers are also on display, offering a complete overview of the print finishing process.
Amitabh Luthra, speaking to PrintWeek, said, "The inaugural day saw a turnout of approximately 100 visitors. Many prospective attendees expressed their intent to visit soon and take advantage of the inaugural offers."
According to Amitabh Luthra, one of the key figures behind the project, the centre is "not too big, just about enough to accommodate all the equipment and visitors streaming in." He emphasized the importance of the location, situated within Kolkata's bustling printing hub, surrounded by paper, ink, and box dealers, as well as numerous print finishing units. This prime location is expected to attract a significant number of walk-in customers interested in the showcased equipment.
The new experience centre at Surya Sen Street is poised to become a central hub for digital printing and finishing in Eastern India, fostering innovation and accessibility within the region's vibrant print packaging industry.
Printers Supply Co, the company Luthra helms, started out as type founders, till the 1990s. It moved and majored in post-print finishing for both book-binding and packaging before adding flexo presses to its bouquet of print supplies offerings.
