The global market for digitally printed packaging and labels is expected to reach USD 22-bn in 2025, according to new Smithers research. The report, The Future of Digital Print for Packaging to 2030, projects a 10.9% CAGR, taking the market to USD 36.9-bn by 2030.

Digital print currently holds 1.3% of packaging output by volume and 4.1% by value, but its share is set to rise as new high-throughput presses enter the market. Corrugated will lead growth, with value more than doubling to USD 8.2-bn by 2030, driven by fast wide-web inkjet systems reaching 400 m/min today and 500 m/min by decade-end.

Labels will grow at a slower 8% CAGR due to high adoption levels, with around 8,100 narrow-web presses already installed. Flexible packaging is projected to expand at 11.6% CAGR as more digital systems overcome material-compatibility barriers.

Smithers said ongoing advances in inkjet, toner, workflow, and finishing will continue to improve digital’s cost-effectiveness and quality across packaging segments. The report is available for USD 6,750 (EUR 6,350 or GBP 5,475).
