When you read your early morning newspaper, besides half tones and colour reproduction you look for...
I look for all the important news of the city, nation, world, business, sports….basically everything. I like to keep myself updated.

When and how do you begin your day?
I begin my day with a cup of tea and I reach office by 9:00am

Do you plan your day, meticulously? Or is it ad hoc? Or is there a blue print for the day?
It’s a mix of planned meetings, routines and surprises.

One person with whom you like to share your daily drive to office. Why?
It definitely has to be with my father, Bipin Tanna. I can always learn a thing or two till I reach office.

What’s the first thing you do on entering the office?
Take a round of the entire premises.

How frequently do you interact with print production supervisors? What do you discuss, commonly?
I interact with them every morning during my rounds.

With the fierce competition, high cost of entry and above all - the increasing threat from other media, do you find that traditional ink-on-paper is facing a serious threat to its survival?
No. The pleasure of reading the newspaper or a book will always be more than an e-paper or a kindle.

Which press does the best printing in India? And why?
Mitsubishi 3F. The main reason is its consistency.

How do you rate your press as compared to leading printers the world-over?
Our press is at par but it still can be better.

If you won Rs 10 crore through Playwin which printing equipment would you invest in? Why?
Mitsubishi six-colour with coater.

Today - we hear of innumerable printing presses closing down or being on the verge of closing down. Why is this happening? And - what does this portend for the future of the industry?
The rise in the cost of raw materials and the lack of skilled labour are the main reasons. There has to be regularised pricing on the raw materials.

The best breakthrough in print technology in the past hundred years?
There are too many to name in the past hundred years..

Your favourite adda? Or paan? Also which is your cell phone? Pen? Car? Wrist watch?
My favourite adda would be TGIF. Cell phone – Blackberry. Pen – Montblanc. Car – Vento.

The most frequently used mantra in your organisation. Your corporate philosophy?
Quality, service and relations, in the said order.

The craziest deadline, you've come across?
Well, hourly deadlines are part of the industry. So we are used to the craziness.

Your favorite excuse to your family when you’re late?
Left but stuck in traffic

Has the domination of the printing industry reached a plateau with the arrival of new competitors?
Yes.

In India – the two most important barriers are technology and cost. What advice do you have for the printer?
Don’t hesitate to invest in technology. As for cost, always have an external cost auditor to see things you can’t see in your routine. Because money saved is money earned.

One person with whom you would like to have a FACE TO FACE?
Narendra Modi.
