Boxtech has unveiled the Momentum FL 1100, a high-speed automatic folder-gluer designed to address what the company sees as a long-standing gap in India’s mid-range carton and corrugated converting market.
Speaking to PrintWeek, Ajay Nayak, CEO at Boxtech, said the machine is a direct response to the lack of locally manufactured options with advanced capabilities. “In the mid-range segment, converters were left with two choices: import machines or stretch budgets for large global brands,” he said. “We saw a clear opportunity to build a machine in India that delivers the features customers now expect.”
Development of the Momentum FL 1100 began over three years ago and builds on Boxtech’s earlier Velocity Plus platform. While Velocity focused on straight-line and crash-lock cartons, the new machine expands the capability to complex box styles. “With Momentum, we are running four- and six-corner cartons as well as corrugated applications,” Nayak said.
The Momentum FL 1100 is engineered for high-output environments, with production speeds of up to 350 metres per minute and a maximum blank width of 1,100-mm. It handles carton board up to 600-gsm and corrugated flute types N, E and F, with folded box thicknesses of up to 8-mm.
Setup time is positioned as a key operational advantage. Straight-line cartons can be set up in 10 to 15 minutes, crash-lock jobs in around 30 minutes, and four- or six-corner cartons within two hours. “Because this machine is fully designed and built by us, we control the software, electronics and mechanics,” Nayak explained. “That allows us to support customers without the delays typically associated with imported systems.”
The machine includes independent servo-driven feeders, an aligner section for handling disproportionate and complex cartons, pre-folding units, optional electronic upper glueing, and a motorised press section, all aimed at reducing manual intervention and improving consistency.
Boxtech plans to install at least four Momentum FL 1100 machines in the initial phase, with early interest coming from repeat customers already operating its equipment. “Converters who have used our machines understand what faster setup and local service support mean on the shopfloor,” Nayak noted. "We are expanding our installation base to Middle East countries and Southeast African countries as well."
With the Momentum FL 1100, Boxtech is positioning itself as a domestic alternative to imported folder-gluers, targeting converters looking to increase speed, flexibility and uptime without adding overseas service dependencies.
