Venugopal Menon of Bobst India said, “We, at Bobst have a large portfolio to address every need of the customer. With die-cutters and folder-gluer range offering from both Bobst and Eterna, we can address the need for die-cut and glued boxes. For the Brown RSC boxes and multicolour RSC boxes with and without die-cut, we now have the full range offering from Bobst Lyon [FFG 820 / FFG 924NT/1228NT] and for mid-range to address 90% of the market needs, we have established a brand-new factory in Pune, wherein the complete FFG case-maker will be made in India. We have started with the open-close NOVAFFG 1024, of which four machines have been sold and are in production in India. In the near future, we will also do the NOVAFFG 1227 and the fixed rapid set VISIONFFG 1024.”
He mentioned that Bobst India held an open house in May 2025 for this made-in-India NOVAFFG 1024, which was a great success with more than 30 companies attending the event.
Bobst has been associated with the IndiaCorr exhibition for many years. “Our long-standing association with ICCMA has been very meaningful, as it has enabled us to work closely with industry stakeholders and collectively address many challenges faced by the Indian corrugation industry,” Menon said.
With India now becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy, expected to surpass Germany by 2028, Menon foresees exponential growth in consumption across FMCG, eCommerce, electronics, and food products. This surge in demand will directly translate into higher requirements for corrugated packaging.
“As more goods are produced, shipped, and delivered, the corrugation industry will play a critical role in supporting this consumption wave. For us, at Bobst, it also means an opportunity to equip Indian corrugators with advanced, efficient, and sustainable solutions to meet these evolving market needs. The recently introduced GST reform bill will simplify the taxation process and introduce only tax slabs; this will move many consumer products from the 12% slab to 5% slab, helping stimulate consumption demand, which will in turn boost the packaging industry,” he said.
According to Menon, automation, lightweighting, die-cut boxes, minimised dependency on labour, addressing JIT deliveries, are some of the recent trends driving the corrugation industry. “Also, many manufacturing companies are setting up shops across the country. Thus, there is a need for well-made and formed corrugated boxes with optimum quality and cost, with the shortest lead times. This is the need of the hour,” he concluded.
