Ahmedabad’s Astron Packaging has commissioned a new corrugation facility in Pune, Maharashtra. Spread across 2,00,000-sqft site, this marks Astron’s most ambitious corrugation expansion to date, designed specifically to cater to India’s growing fresh produce export market.

The new plant adds to Astron’s existing network that includes facilities in Ahmedabad and Dubai, with the Pune site positioned strategically close to its largest customer base. “80% of our fresh produce packaging demand comes from Maharashtra,” says Niraj Darji, president of Astron Packaging. “This facility helps us significantly cut transportation and logistics costs, while offering faster delivery and service.”

The site houses a high-speed corrugation line from European and Chinese manufacturers. At full capacity, the plant will process 10,000 tonnes of board per month, making it the country’s largest single-location corrugation plant. It is currently operating one corrugation and one converting line in two shifts, with additional lines to be commissioned by October 2025.

Astron is targeting a 30% in revenue growth this year, and the Pune plant is expected to significantly contribute to this growth. The company is also preparing to export specially fluted mono cartons to Europe, leveraging its upgraded cassette-type corrugation capabilities and a dedicated quality lab for high-humidity packaging performance.
