Among the range of innovative products and services on offer, Manohar explained about PSL & IML large product portfolio, which is now equipped with higher thickness and excellent flatness. “We have developed in-house novel coatings, which are far superior when it comes to print and adhesive receptiveness,” he said.

Max’s new BOPP manufacturing line is expected to catalyse the growth of specialty films for the company. “The advanced design of our new state–of-the-art BOPP line commissioned last year will enable us to delve deeper into labels and barrier films as important market segments,” Manohar said.

Currently, the new investment enables the company to produce 12- to 85-micron films to cater to in-mould labelling and pressure sensitive labelling segments. This line has almost doubled the company’s production capacity from 46.35-kilo tonnes per annum to 80.85 KTA, which has resulted in better economics for the company. So we are poised to spearhead the domestic and global markets and innovation is leading us to achieve this milestone.

Labelexpo Europe 2019: Cosmo Films highlights sustainable products

Pankaj Poddar, CEO, Cosmo Films, said, “It has been a very good show for us. The demand of our products is growing tremendously, especially for sustainable products. We are working with multiple MNCs to develop new packaging materials for them. To cater the demand we have increased the size of our R&D team.

Kapil Anand, head sales, speciality label and industrial films, Cosmo Films, said that Cosmo Films has top-coating capability available across diverse widths generally required by label stock manufacturers, such as 1-, 1.3-, 1.6-, and 2.2-metres.

Cosmo has recently installed a new, automated 2.2-m coating line, which enables both side coating in a single pass. The company also has an in-house state-of-the-art product application centre to test and validate functionalities as well as print quality of the film for new innovations and customised offerings.

Labelexpo Europe 2019: IEEC highlights the importance of corona-treatment

During Labelexpo Europe 2019, IEEC partners Lombardi, Multitec, Monotech and U V Graphics installed corona-treater on their presses.

Talking to PrintWeek India, Pramod Arage, sales manager, key accounts, IEEC, said the company takes care of all safety measures as their corona-treaters are CE marked confirming to the American and European safety standards. “Our plug-in connections make easy and fast installations of corona-treater,” Arage said.

In 2016, IEEC was awarded the prestigious India Design Mark from Government of India for the best design category of Narrow Web Treater.

The company is now supplying its systems globally to end-users as well as flexo printing press manufacturers. It has installed many corona-treatment systems in Middle East, USA and Europe since the last Labelexpo Europe 2017.

“We did more than 100 installations globally through OEMs and at end-users,” Arage said. “We have a major share in the Indian market as well. The features we provide have been appreciated by our global customers.”

Arage said that ink anchorage is a serious problem during printing the label, and thus, inline corona-treatment is an effective and economical solution of increasing the surface energy of the base substrate prior to printing.

“Most label producers now understand the importance of corona-treater requirement on their presses. Corona-treater is the most economical technique to increase surface energy of a substrate for better bonding of ink with substrate,” he added.

Labelexpo Europe 2019: Provin Technos attends show with Miyakoshi

In the previous edition of Labelexpo Brussels, Miyakoshi showcased MLP-13 H Model, which is the world’s fastest semi-rotary press with the capability of printing at 121.9-m/min. This time, the company showcased the MLP-13 C model which has the printing capability of 100-m/min along with servo-driven chilled rollers which in turn makes the machine suitable for catering short-run flexible packaging market and print on substrates as thin as 15-microns.

According to Akshay Kaushal of Provin Technos, Miyakoshi has had good two years in the worldwide market since the last Labelexpo. Apart from its domestic market, Japan, they have been able to excel further in the European market and the Chinese market.

In India, the first Miyakoshi machine was installed at Pragati Pack, Hyderabad sometime around Labelexpo 2017.

Now, to showcase the product capabilities to the market, Provin has set up a demo centre for Miyakoshi’s highly robust and sophisticated high speed semi-rotary offset label press MLP in New Delhi.

The second press on display was the Miyakoshi MJP – LXV LED-UV inkjet digital press. This is a state of the art digital press specialised for labels.

Labelexpo Europe 2019: Zircon inks major deals with Mark Andy, Rotoflex

Among the three Mark Andy P7 presses, two will be ten-colour and one will be 12-colour narrow-web flexo. One machine will be installed within a month or so, and the rest will be installed at a later date.

The eight Rotoflex devices includes two VSI 330 with 100% inspection system, VLI 440 with special configuration and DLI 440 an offline high performance die-cutter for thinner substrates. Five Rotoflex equipment will be delivered this year and the rest three will be delivered the next year.

All the equipment will be installed at Zircon’s new plant in Dehradun. It will be the company’s fourth plant in the city.

Sanjeev Sondhi of Zircon Technologies said all the equipment will be installed in the new plant by next year.

“We have a long and strong relationship with both Mark Andy and Rotoflex. So the decision-making process was easy and quick,” Sondhi said. “As a label printing company, we always believe that printing quality is obvious and you need strong post-press to deliver the final product and that’s why we went for eight Rotoflex with three printing presses.”

At the show, TP Jain of Monotech Systems said, “This is the first global exposure to our Jetsci Colornovo. We are hopeful to receive the same kind of responses the machine received at other exhibitions.”

Jimit Mittal, vice-president, inkjet products and solutions, Monotech Systems, said, “Labelexpo Europe is an international platform to present our products for the global label printing industry. We have few other products and solutions and we are really confident of wide acceptance in the market. One of them is digital varnish and foiling for label finishing and embellishment, dSpark.”

Mittal said the European edition of the label exhibition has always been a trendsetter for the label industry. “We have been a regular participant. This time, we have booked almost three times more space compared to earlier editions,” he said.

He added that being a digital printing press manufacturer, the company’s specialisation has always been the ability to deliver tailored and customised solutions according to the requirement of customers backed with highly assured support and service.

“We want more and more global presence and installations,” Mittal said. “Presently, we have the installation base in more than 18 countries. We are expecting a good number of sales but it being a capital and technical equipment, sales takes time and it does not happen often.”

He said every printer involved in label printing can be a potential customer.

“It being a digital solution, label printers can use our solution for short-runs, medium-runs, VDP and others special requirement. Earlier editions were focused on hybrid and digital printing technologies and we expect more focus on digital printing technology. Digital UV Inkjet has grown tremendously whether due to its high quality, flexibility, less operating cost, reliability and others. In every field of printing, inkjet is proving to be the best-suited solution. We believe inkjet is present and future technology,” he concluded.

Labelexpo 2019: Multitec Aids to demonstrate its S1 model

According to Amit Ahuja, sales director, Multitec Aids, this is a full servo press with auto-register, chill rolls, two cold-foil stations, turnbar with delam-relam.

At the show, Multitec will be demonstrating the press to print on 30-microns PVC shrink material as well as 12-microns BOPP.

Ahuja said it would be the fifth consecutive edition of Labelexpo Europe where Multitec will showcase live presses running complex jobs.

“We are expecting good leads from the show, as we have received in the previous years,” Ahuja said. “After the show, the press used for demonstration will go to a customer in Russia which already has two S1 Multitec presses.”

Labelexpo 2019: Cosmo Films to highlight its top-coating capability

The both side coated PS label films are excellent for printing with diverse ink systems. These have been especially designed for repositionable and removable label applications. Functionality imparted is no adhesive stain on containers post removal of labels.

The matte-coated PS label films have unique top coating which are compatible with eight kinds of print media namely UV flexo, water flexo, thermal transfer, letterpress, screen, HP indigo, UV inkjet and UV offset. These are available in 65 and 75 microns for pressure sensitive label stock application. They find applications in labelling of high-end personal care products, pharmaceuticals and drum labelling.

The transparent in-mould label film has been specially designed to offer in-mould label customers requiring no label look and high transparency for their labels. The film offers high gloss on both sides and can be printed using offset, rotogravure and flexo printing processes. The film finds its applications for both PP & PE Injection moulding.

The high tear-resistant synthetic paper for tags and labels are non-tearable and has excellent tear resistance and has been designed specifically for tag applications. It is printable on both sides by UV offset, water and UV flexo, and thermal transfer printing processes. Typical tag applications include garment hang tags, horticulture identification tags, tree tags, cattle identification tags and airport transfer tags.

Labelexpo 2018: Monotech signs five Colornovo deals

Gurvinder Singh, director, sales and marketing, Monotech Systems, said, “We booked five Colornovo during the show to be delivered to Barcom Industries and Wonder Pac in India, a customer in Italy and two to our existing user in China.”

He said all the sold kits will have inline finishing and converting options with UV inkjet printing, which is a USP of Jetsci Colornovo.

“We have come a long way from basic monochrome VDP solutions to a fully integrated UV inkjet label production press completely developed in India. Apart from the orders, many global leaders in flexo printing machines and finishing equipment have shown great interest for tie-ups with us,” Singh added.

The company also received orders for its flagship VSRI (Variable data printing, slitter, rewinder and inspection system). “Three VSRI has been booked by Holostik India, Noida, and two more by a security printer to be installed one each in south and north India,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, the company also displayed prototypes of Jetsci Kolorsmart (a full colour hybrid digital label production system) and digital label finishing system (digital spot UV varnish, digital screen white, and digital cold foil to generate effects on labels like emboss, silk screen, spot coating, textured coating) at the show. “These prototypes will be shaped into complete products soon, as we have received great response on these solutions,” Jimit Mittal, vice-president, inkjet products and solutions, Monotech Systems, said.

Neelakandan Gopalakrishnan, CEO, Sai Enterprises, said, “With the CDI 4260, we will be able to optimise quality in both narrow as well as wide-web segment, and produce high quality flexographic plates.”

Gopalakrishnan said after installing its second CDI 4835 flexo plate imager it has experienced a growth of 34%, and with this new installation of CDI Spark 4260 it aims to add to its exponential growth.

“The machine gives us a better reliability and quality reproduction along with a good software support,” he added.

John Winderam, general manager South Asia and South East Asia, Esko, said, “It gives us immense pleasure when a company such as Sai Enterprises, who has been associated with us since 2006 continues the long-term relationship with us. Labelexpo 2018: Vinsak sells Lombardi Flexoline Plus to Prakruti Graphics

Prakuti Graphics specialises in printing of pre-gummed, products, printed bottle, PP, barcode, BOPP, adhesive labels and is equipped with finishing options like embossing, stamping, and metalised.

Nandu Rangnekar, director at Prakruti Graphics, present at the Vinsak stand to sign the deal, said, he evaluated other presses in the market, but found Lombardi to be the best. “The Flexoline Plus offers the highest price to performance ratio.”

The eight-colour, 430mm wide Flexoline Plus press set to be installed at Prakruti’s Goregaon plant, is a servo press without a line shaft offering servo driven plate cylinders. The machine is equipped with cold foil, delam relam, two die-cut units and pre-register control which is very useful for setting up the jobs fast and with less wastage. “The machine will be used for printing labels with foiling, security and tamper evident labels and it will cater primarily to the pharmaceutical and FMCG clients,” Rangnekar said.

Mohan Pailwan, general manager, at Vinsak, said: “With the rapid improvements and growth of the labels and packaging business, companies need to invest in good printing presses to address the needs of brand owners.
