Aleksandar Lazic and Lars Bendixen of Zund

Aleksandar Lazic, segment manager packaging and Lars Bendixen, segment manager graphics spoke about optimised workflow and intelligent automation requirement. They discussed factors like shorter print runs and shorter production times which are sharpening the focus on intelligent automation for print and cut workflows and seamless job tracking.

Lazic said, "eCommerce is booming and so is the web to print. Shorter print and lead runs and increases price pressure calls intelligent automation for print. Data coming from ERP, MIS and web subsystems can be put into new use further down the workflow (termed as metadata) can play an important role in the production process."

Speaking on workflow solutions,  Bendixen said, "Combining and nesting different jobs is essential for efficient printing and maximum material yield. One can track the progress of individual jobs through the metadata and print it in order to identify each job. By scanning the QR code printed on the label, one can track the order easily."

Overview of other products showcased at Virtual Drupa

D3 Digital Cutter
With its innovative dual-beam system, the D3 sets new standards in performance. The two beams can each be equipped with up to three different modules, instantly doubling the throughput. The cutter controller optimally allocates the jobs to each of the two beams, ensuring maximum productivity.

Pick and place interface
The Zünd Cut Center – ZCC can control a robot via the pick and place interface option. This allows the cut parts to be removed, sorted and stored fully automatically. The cut-out parts can be placed at predefined positions. ZCC calculates the ideal arrangement of the suction cups and activates only those that are needed. Based on the default settings in the ZCC, the robot can place the parts in a container or on a growing stack.

Visualising Option
Visual support for parts removal via projection and monitor – with the visualising option, cut parts can be marked and labelled quickly and easily. The visualising option ensures an overview of the cut parts at all times and simplifies dispatch logistics.

V-Cutting Tool - VCT2
The V-Cutting Tool is used for creating complex models from lightweight foam or sandwich panels. A design that has been thought through down to the last detail enables quick tool changes and simple, precise angle adjustment. Seven different angles can be cut with the VCT2 (0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 22.5°, 30°, 45°).
