SIES SOP Star awards honour the packaging fraternity

The second edition of SIES SOP star awards was held on 5 January 2019 at the SIES Campus in Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

The winners were amongst 193 entries from 48 companies

The panel of jury analysed more than 193 entries from 48 companies, all across the country, to decide the award winners.

At the event, Uflex was honoured with seven awards for its packaging innovation and product development.

Cosmo Films bagged two awards for its excellence in packaging innovation and product development in the flexible packaging space.

Padma Vibhushan, Dr R Chidambaram, was the chief guest for the event and AVPS Chakravarthi, global ambassador, World Packaging Organisation (WPO), was the guest of honour. 

Dr V Shankar, president, SIES; J Santhanam and P Sethuraman, vice presidents, SIES were few of the other dignitaries present at the event, amongst others.

PV Narayanan, chairman, SIES SOP/PTC, provided a background of the SIES SOP star awards and started the proceedings with the welcome note.

Narayanan said, "The SIES SOP star awards recognise the individuals, involved in the packaging fraternity and academics for their excellence in innovation, creativity, and R&D." 

The  SIES SOP star awards honour the new concepts in packaging that cover the complete gamut of packaging media, packaging machinery and systems, product packaging, environment-friendly packaging, and all initiatives related to packaging with USPs.

At the event, Dr R Chidambaram cited the far-reaching benefits of green packaging, data analysis and also highlighted the significant role of packaging in agri-horticulture products and how the farmers can benefit from the same. 

He said, “Besides the enormous food diversity, rare processed foods could reach all over the country through appropriate packaging. Good packaging should be spread to the rural sector along with proper brand identification.”

AVPS Chakravarthi emphasised on the significance of packaging education, spreading of knowledge, and adequacy of opportunities to the packaging professional fraternity.
