Nikhil Puntambeka: Flexo is really pushing the boundaries of what’s possible

Puntambekar explains that there were limited advancements and automation in flexo 12 years ago. "Kodak Flexcel NX system and plates, with its thermal imaging layer and flat top dots, have elevated the profile of flexo over the years."

He says flexo, today, is really pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Puntambekar shares an example of one of his clients: "We asked one of our label printer customers to try Kodak Flexcel NX plates and choose the right Digicap NX pattern to address a pin-holing issue they were facing with their earlier plates. We solved this issue and managed to get the same ink laydown on white with just one plate versus the two hits of white that used to be the standard process earlier. This meant savings for the printer on plate as well as white ink, which is the most expensive pigment."

Meanwhile, he also believes that each job that goes out must lead to an ‘Aha’ moment and "we do our very best to provide that experience to each customer".

However, Puntambekar has a message to all brands and product managers. He believes packaging plays a vital role in sustenance since it’s instrumental in the food packaging and pharma industry. "We are following all guidelines at work and home, and request others to do the same. Staying safe and keeping healthy is the least we can do as we prepare for a better future."
