June issue of PrintWeek, WhatPackaging? out

After much delay, the 2022 edition of PrintPack India, India’s premier trade exhibition, finally took place from 26 to 30 May at India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. And, by all consensus, the show was a success.

The PrintWeek team attended the five-day show, and the cover story of the June issue of PrintWeek highlights everything that took place at PrintPack 2022 —from the deals made to the machines unveiled.

IPAMA reported that 1,03,412 visitors from 52 countries came to the show to see the latest technology-based machines and other related products showcased by 487 companies. The exhibitors finalised various business deals worth Rs 2,000-crore during the first four days. 

May was the month of exhibitions, and the June issue of PrintWeek carries reports of the other industry exhibitions that took place in May.  

The 15th edition of Paperex, an exhibition on paper, plup and the allied industries, took place on 10-13 May at India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. Keeping up with the trend of finding sustainable solutions to plastic waste, the highlight of the show was paper for different packaging needs, from mono cartons to paper straws. 

The 48th edition of Media Expo, organised by Messe Frankfurt India, which took place at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai from 12-14 May 2022 highlighted the transition towards innovative, sustainable and eco-friendly advertising solutions. With product showcases from 127 exhibitors, including 17% new participants on the show floors, the event garnered a record-breaking footfall of 13,199 visitors and buyers from 15 countries and 27 Indian states. The show also witnessed debutant international exhibitors from Germany, Italy and the UK.

The 15th edition of Goafest from 5-7 May 2022 was organised by the Advertising Agencies Association of India Club. 

Mumbai Mudrak Sangh’s signature Round Table Conference was held in Alibaug on 9 April 2022. The theme this year was digital print unplugged: thinking sensibly about print in an uncertain world.

In the Print Sector section, the June issue of PrintWeek profiles Kanpur-based Solar Press. From catering to British merchants in pre-Independence India to servicing the multinational brands today, Kanpur’s Solar Press (established as Star Press in 1904) has a storied history spanning more than a century. 

In the Technology section, Aultrin Vijay finds out how Kodak’s Sonora process-free plates are making an impression in India, and how print CEOs are going for the technology that has great savings over processed plates.

The Profile section carries an interview with Vinod Dutia of Speed Print. When Speed Print began its print journey in Kolkata, it was a challenge, and an opportunity. Speed Print overcame the challenges and grabbed the opportunities to carve a successful business for itself. 

The cover story of WhatPackaging? supplement that comes with PrintWeek is ITC’s packaging portfolio with recyclable and compostable options. From recyclable laminates for coffee packaging to a recyclable solution to replace multilayer packaging for pulses, ITC’s Packaging and Printing Business has ramped up the sustainability index in its factories. 

In the Trend section, Gaurav Jalan, founder of Packman Packaging tells Aultrin Vijay about the latest trends in packaging and how the industry could leverage the benefits of blockchain.

In the Eco-Friendly section, Vaibhav Anant of Bambrew tells Aultrin Vijay how the company is working its way to replace single-use plastics with eco-friendly bamboo-, sugarcane- and seaweed-pulp packaging.

In the Profile section, Vineeth A Viswanathan of SGS & Co discusses the power of packaging design with Aultrin Vijay.
