JMD Digital Art Xchange opts for Kongsberg

Anupam Gupta, managing director, JMD Digital Art Xchange, said, “With the Kongsberg digital cutting table, we have been able to eliminate manual intervention and increase our speed, quality and perfection in finishing POP and POS materials.

Gupta, a first-generation entrepreneur with a finance background, has more than three decades of experience in the industry.

“With this installation, we can cut and finish different substrates like corrugated and bubble guard boards, and crease and bend substrates which are not possible manually. The machine can handle substrates like corrugated sheets, folding carton, solid board, foam, coating blankets, wood and plastic materials, apart from PVC, HIPS, fabric, leather, etc,” he added.

Meanwhile, the company is planning to offer digital braille signage printing, apart from the hugely popular three-layer printing (colour + white + colour). For this, the company has installed EFI Vutek GS 3250 with LED UV curing. It is a 3.2-m wide printer and the installation took place in 2018. The machine was also supplied by Arrow Digital.

“It has nine colour gamut, eight colour with white. We can print thin transparent films and other non-absorbent substrates like mica and laminates, because of cold LED UV lamps,” Gupta said.

“We also opted for structural packaging design software ArtiosCAD from Esko. Our first table was fully equipped within a month from installation and hopefully we will be getting another table soon,” he added.

JMDDAX is also planning to serve packaging clients, but the plan was put on hold due to Covid-19 situation. “We will diversify into labelling and packaging gradually. First, we will produce labels with digital inkjet technology,” he said.

On the impact of the pandemic, Gupta said, since MNCs and corporates are not functioning in full scale, business is slow to be back on track. “Raw material prices have gone up. Freight cost and cost of petroleum products had also had an impact, in the increased cost of production,” he said.
