Gallus introduces new capabilities to its presses
Gallus announced new additions to its under two-year-old presses, which includes the Gallus Labelmaster, the Labelfire 340; and the ECS 340. It has added a multiweb feature to the Gallus Labelmaster Advanced line, and a new digital embellishment unit (DEU) which can be fitted on the Labelfire, ECS 340 and the Labelmaster.

The most exciting announcement that Gallus made was the showcasing of the prototype embellishing unit. This innovation is a joint development by three Swiss companies – Steinemann Technology and Gallus, both from St Gallen, and Schmid Rhyner from Adliswil. It uses the inkjet technology, this newly created digital embellishment unit is able to carry out in-line coating digitally and apply matt, gloss and tactile spot coating effects to the substrate web in various thicknesses.
This digital embellishment unit with the new head, probably the Ricoh printhead, is capable of producing gloss and matt spot coatings and tactile relief effect in a single pass, all using atmospheric UV inkjet coatings. It can be integrated into the Gallus Labelfire, the ECS or the Labelmaster. It supports coating volumes up to 100 gsm with a resolution of 600 x 600 (native/physical).

The M-Call is a new control, a sort of predictive monitoring of the presses, based on data analytics. “This is Gallus’ first step into data analysis. The idea is to proactively protect the customer’s machines from breakdowns,” said Naier.
The Heidelberg Assistant software introduced for Gallus machine platforms will provide the customers with a tool that will enable him to proactively ask for service intervention. Naier added, “The customer can see in real time the performance status of the machine in on his mobile device.”
Gallus’ next announcements was the introduction of the new Phoenix UV LED direct platesetter under the Heidelberg brand. The new exposure systems will be capable of producing printing formes for all the printing process, whether for screen, flexo, offset or letterpress printing.
Gallus claimed that it has over 500 Gallus ECS 340 installed world over, 15 Gallus LabelFire installations in Europe, and while it has two beta machines of the Labelmaster installed in Switzerland, two more will be up and running in Russia and Latin America. “By the end of March 2018, our target is to have 20 machines running. Most of them have been sold, so I am pretty sure we will achieve the target,” concluded Naier.
