AIFMP announces three-month courses on 3D printing and printed electronics to be taught at BIGC, China

The All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP) has announced the dates for the first batch of specialist short courses in ‘3D Printing’ and ‘Printed Electronics’, where the candidates will get an opportunity to study the subjects at the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication (BIGC), in Beijing, China. Chopra said the tuition fees for the three-month training programme is 10,000 yuan (USD 1,500), which comes to approximately Rs 1,00,000. Students from the first batch will receive complementary accommodation at the international hostel. However, students of the subsequent batches will have to bear the accommodation charges.

Meanwhile, students will also have to pay for visa, air ticket and a non-refundable pre-deposit of 1,450 yuan (USD 230). Of this 1,450 yuan, 450 yuan is admission fees, 600 yuan is health insurance and 400 yuan is residential permit visa. AIFMP will also charge Rs 5,000 as the non-refundable registration charges.

There is no prescribed qualification for the short course. Print professionals of any age can apply. However, since the training will be provided in English, ability to communicate and understand English is necessary.

For the first time, the AIFMP has brought such an exclusive opportunity for people-in-print in India. The future printing may evolve through value addition and mass production, while printed electronics will lead the boom in packaging. According to estimates, the market for printed electronics is said to be 300% more than the market of packaging today. Chopra said, to prepare for this future, no proper training facility for both 3D printing and printed electronics is not available in India. 

Considering this, the AIFMP signed a MoU with the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication (BIGC), considered to the world’s largest printing university, to provide specialist short training in these subjects to Indian print professionals, students and teachers in printing.

The course will include lectures, demonstrations and practical workshops on advance printing technologies relating to 3D printing’ and printed electronics. Visit to a range of printing companies using these techniques will also be part of the course curriculum. The training will be provided in batches of 18 to 20 students.
