What does the machine do?
Pantera produces paperbacks and perfect bound books inline with the 1571 gatherer.  This machine being a complete inline binding system does the following – signatures are loaded on individual feeder/hoppers which are gathered automatically, then transferred to the inline Pantera binder, perfect bound, transported over conveyors and books collected and neatly stacked.

Why did you choose this particular system?
We were looking for an automated solution which would boost our bindery. We opted for Pantera because of its ergonomic design which favours quick setup and easy makeready.

Did you look at any other similar systems?
Yes,  we did.

Why did you make the purchase?
We wanted to expand our capacities to cater to publishers and as well as the commercial market.  We required an automated and proven system to support our expansion plans in book production. Muller Martini provided us with a complete package in terms of support, investment, reliability and assured performance in Indian conditions.

What features do you particularly like?
The binder and gatherer which can be operated individually. The signature image recognition is the best in its class. It rejects wrong signature or incomplete loose book block before it enters the binder.

Is there anything that you dislike?
This machine has just got all the essential functions that we were looking at.

How fast is it?
It can run at a maximum speed of 4,000 cycles per hour.

How easy is it to use?
Muller Martini were able to train our operators from manual perfect binder to online solution within a short span of time which ultimately helped us in achieving our set targets.

How much time or money has it saved?
The machine has saved time in makeready, reduced wastage and increased productivity. We have not quantified but are aware of the substantial savings achieved.

Has it won you any new work?
Yes, we have added new clients like book publishers and also some specialty booklet markets.

Would you say that it offers value for money?
The calculation differs between press and post-press equipment. But Pantera has provided us additional capacity and unlike most Indian printing companies where post-press is a major bottle neck and push factor, in our case with the investment in Pantera, it’s a pull factor. This means, our “work in progress” area is never overflowing. Instead  the signature pallets are quickly transformed into finished products – invoiceable finished inventory!

Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
Yes, there were. But Muller Martini India provided their best support right from the beginning and continues to support till now.  So overall the learning curve has been short and smooth.

What about the pre and after-sales service?
The pre and post-installation service by Muller Martini has been professional and prompt.

Who do you think the system is right for?
All printers and publishers who are looking to move from manual to automatic binding.

Under what circumstances would you buy another?
When we have enough work in the plant. I think that time will soon come ..
