As the name suggests, carton folder and gluing machine is a paper and paper board folding and gluing machine which folds and glues the sheet to make a box.

Acme Machinery (India), the Indian manufacturer of exercise notebook machines, hydraulic paper cutting machines, folding and gluing machines and corrugated making machines, has developed the folder and gluer machines.

This folder-gluer, which the manufacturer claims to be the first in the country and was launched in 1998. What’s interesting to note about the Acme story is, since the launch more than 250 folding gluing machines have been sold in India as well as worldwide.

Dipti Shah, director at Acme Machinery says, “We provide the best solution for a paper packaging printer to produce the standard and crash-lock bottom cartons. First and foremost our machine is the most easy to operate and requires very low maintenance. All four creases in the cartons are folded while pasting; therefore it becomes completely free for re-opening in automatic pharmaceutical filling machines.

No glue dots are found inside the carton so it does not stick from inside. The speed of the straight-line machine is approximately 250-350 metres/minute and the speed of our lock-bottom machine is 125-150 metres/minute. Shah said: “Many of our clients are using up to nine machines.”

Quality offered is no doubt the best which is the reason our clients are repeatedly using our machine again and again. Our valued customers are very satisfied as we generate 80% of our business every year from our existing clients and only 20% of our business caters to new client orders.”

“Acme will be participating in Drupa 2012 and looks forward to giving tough competition to its European competitors by 2020,” she adds.

According to the manufacturing company, the folding gluing machine can achieve a maximum speed of 350 metres per minute to produce the cartons from 40 to 400 mm sheets. And the three models – 350/550/750 of the machine provide solutions for a size of 750 mm also.

These folding and gluing machines are ideal for those who are looking to invest in the mechanism which is cost-effective and easy to operate without investing in the other expensive systems. The system, since its launch became popular among the paper and paper board packaging printers because of its quality and cost. These include installations at reputed firms like Print and Pack, Laxmi Print Art, Nobel Print Art, Borkar Packaging, Rich Offset, ITC, HBD Packaging and others.

As the machine comes in 350/550/750 models which depends on the size of the box. For better gluing result some of the printers also opt for HSS gluing system from Germany based Baumer.

Customer Speak
Jaipur-based paper packaging printer Shuban Prints has invested in an Acme folding gluing machine at the start of 2011 for its carton production. Bharat Gupta, CEO, Shuban Prints, says, “The mechanism is affordable with a short return on investment period. The machine is easy to operate. The system is capable to produce better quality cartons. This has helped us to meet the customers’ satisfaction.”

“We are using this machine for a year now. We produce around two lakh cartons per day of 40 to 400 mm cartons for our customers of different segments. HSS gluing system from Baumer, Germany definitely makes it a better solution. This is a good entry-level machine and one of the best in its segment.  We operate the machine round the clock at speed of between 130 to 160 meter per minute to produce 13,000 lock bottom boxes an hour,” Gupta adds.
