One of ITC’s oldest paper manufacturing units, Tribeni mill manufactures low density paper used to print Bibles, which the company also exports. The factory also manufactures speciality paper for the FMCG sector, and decorative laminates.

According to the report, the investment will be spent in boosting the capacity for making specialised decorative paper for laminates. ITC has been in the business of décor paper for long and is now investing in a state-of-the-art technology for augmenting décor paper capacity to improve its quality. The project installation has already started. “This investment will allow ITC to compete with the European varieties of décor paper,” Sanjay Singh, CEO of ITC’s paper division, was reported as saying.

The Tribeni factory, set up in 1949, is mostly known for its low grammage Bible paper. According to ITC, it is the sole supplier of the paper to the Bible Society.

The production capacity of the plant is 33,500 metric tonnes and it provides employment to 1,600 people.

The operations of ITC’s paperboards, paper and packaging division are spread across four units in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal. Each of the units specialises in a range of products. In paperboards, the product ranges from 100% virgin food grade boards to recycled boards. Together, the four units have a capacity of 7 lakh tonnes.
