Domino announces shrink sleeve printing on N610i

Domino Digital Printing Solutions has reported “initial positive results” for its latest six-colour UV90 UV-curable ink set operating on the N610i inkjet label press printing on various shrink sleeve materials at Labelexpo Europe.

Easton: We think the Domino N610i high speed ink jet solution will offer a different proposition and will be a disruptive technology”

Domino’s Labelexpo stand showcased several converted samples produced on N610i.

At the event, Domino launched its UV90 inks, which the company said "have excellent physical properties for printing on self-adhesive labels" but not with shrink sleeve materials.

“We are in the process of understanding the cost of ownership model for shrink sleeve printing,” said Philip Easton, director of Domino's Digital Printing Solution's business. “Industry research suggests that many of the liquid toner applications are just used for prototype production and early product life requirements. This is mostly driven by high unit cost and slow running speeds. We think the Domino N610i high speed ink jet solution, running 70 metres per minute combined with a lower cost flexo printed white for the backing, will offer a different proposition and will be a disruptive technology.”

After on-going testing of this capability with a shrink sleeve printer, Domino confirmed its first sale with hybrid line configuration designed to print both self-adhesive labels and shrink sleeves.
“We are really delighted with the performance of our UV90 ink set,” Easton said.

“UV90 has improved adhesion and light-fastness and now with shrink-sleeve printing, we feel confident that rapid adoption of ink jet technology will accelerate further."
