Ahmedabad-based label print specialist, Yashvi Printpack has installed a Gallus ECS 340, its first imported flexo press. Prior to the Gallus, the label firm operated two RK Labels rotary tower flexo presses.

According to Kerul Desai, director at Yashvi, it became necessary to be competitive in the label market place, which the two indigenous presses could not offer. “Features like job data storage, recall, presetting, no gap print on start-stop and, ink transfer without running the web, and a short web path has helped us cut down on wastage drastically.

The eight-station Gallus ECS 340, according to Desai, is an industrial grade construction machine. “The press is a sturdy piece of equipment. It does not vibrate, thanks to the granite core. During the trial, we ran the press at 165 metres per minutes, he says.”

The advantages that the new press has over the indigenous presses are the completely servo-driven process, which eliminates gears. “It all about the anilox sleeves and sleeve print cylinders,” said Desai, adding “The ECS 340 also features ink chambers which prevent ink spitting and foam; UV cassettes with chilled jackets for consistent web temperature to handle high-speed production

The new Gallus was installed two months ago, and has since, seen an increase in the firm's ability to produce more. “The press is now used for all key label jobs. It has taken over much of the jobs of the existing presses, and also helped add new clients to our customer base,” said Desai.
