With Xerox 1000i, Bharat Photostat looks at metallic print on tags

Naraina-based Bharat Photostat, which has been a Xerox loyalist since it acquired a Xerox DC 12 in 2000, has invested in a new Xerox kit after a gap of four years. The new Xerox 1000i has been running at the print firm since January 2016 and has printed more than three lakh A3 prints.

Abhishek Nangia, the second generation of the family owned digital printing business, said, “Xerox has been our partner since our entry into digital print production. The kind of quality production you can get on Xerox machine is difficult to get elsewhere.”

Going forward, Nangia said he wants to focus on both quality and quantity, and he said the new investment would help him achieve it. “The vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) technology of the machine provides outstanding 2400x2400 dpi resolution and digital halftone screens. We have customers from both the segments. We run the Xerox 1000i for both kinds of jobs.”

Now the company is doing tags for the garment industry and Nangia said the new Xerox gives him the confident to make those labels more lucrative and visible. Nangia said he is taking baby steps into the apparel tags business, but he believes in the potential of the segment and is keen to focus on it.

Nangia said the Xerox 1000i is capable of printing metallic colours – silver/gold. This was one of the reasons why the company decided to invest in this machine. “We have started printing jobs with metallic colours,” Nangia said. “Though the volume is miniscule right now, we have received positive feedbacks. We believe we will soon receive more orders for garment tags requiring metallic colours.” He gives the example of a customer who was so impressed with metallic print that the next time, he gave an order with higher volume.

Nangia’s father started Bharat Photostat as a photocopy shop. “My father realised the opportunity of photocopy business and stepped in. Six years on, in 2000, we have entered into production printing with Xerox DC 12,” he said.

Presently, Bharat Photostat is equipped with Xerox 1000i and Canon 7010 and recently installed Canon 10000 digital print production engines. The company has three in-house designers to correct and develop designs. Again, a fully equipped post-press facility is capable of meeting any kind of demands. Bharat Photostat prints around 7,000 A3 sheets every day. Around 15 people work in the 2200 sq/ft shopfloor of the company in 10-hour shift.

This is the first time Nangia will be attending Drupa. “My focus will be on digital inkjet,” he said.
