Speaking to PrintWeek India, T S Ramanan, managing director, Glo, said, "With this latest addition, we intend to increase our capacities and address a wider range of applications."

The Indigo 7800, said HP, is designed on the success of its predecessors; Indigo 7000. The machine boasts of direct printing on synthetic substrates with one-shot colour technology, automated on-press colour management with the in-line spectrophotometer and the HP SmartStream  Production Pro Print Server.

Gamyanth Shren, the young head of operations at the firm said, "We are a technology geek company and investing in the latest equipment is always on our list. We are excited about this investment and are looking forward to the next upgrade from HP."

On how they intend to leverage this first-mover advantage, Gamyanth promptly replied, "Being the first in any domain works both ways, as a disadvantage since you do not have a model to replicate and as an advantage since you do not need to replicate anyone."

A look back at Glo's investment in the past three years demonstrates how true the firm is to its 'tech geek' ideology. In 2013, Glo installed the Indigo 5600 in Madurai. A year ago, it had installed the 7600 in Madurai. The 7800 is Glo's third investment in three years. The firm is yet to decide upon the unit where the 7800 will be installed.

"We are working out the logistics to bring in the new workhorse," concluded Gamyanth.

The date of dispatch and installation is yet to be announced by HP and Glo.
