"This installation marks another example of our continued endeavour of upgrading our facility. It also marks a significant milestone in the progress of Pravin Printing Press’ march towards providing highest quality in print service for commercial and packaging sectors," said Kayyum Memon, joint managing director at Pravin.

Memon, a print specialist from Pune Vidyarthi Gruh is assisted by his brother Arshad, an IT graduate. The 60-year old press, which specialises in brochures, catalogues, book, security and packaging printing, was started by Pravin Patel, and a place where Memon’s late father Majid Memon worked as a compositor. In 1969, when Patel decided to quit the print business, he offered the late Majid an opportunity to take over and run it, which he successfully did.

The firm made progress, initially moving from treadle press to letterpress then to single- and two-colour presses. In 2005, the firm got its first four-colour press, a pre-owned Komori Lithrone 426. It added another five-colour Komori Lithrone 526 in 2007. Presently running alongside the new Heidelberg  is an upgraded Komori Lithrone 426. The pre-press though outsourced is duly calibrated with the CTP at the bureau while the post-press is equipped with a perfect binder, a stitching, punching and laminating machines.

Memon said that the print market in Gujarat has received a boost mainly due to the industrial growth the state has witnessed. "We are definitely feeling the upswing," he said.

Memon hopes that the new technology will help the firm to take its turnover up by 25%. "We have all along been using secondhand machine with good effect, but new technology on new machines not only helps improve quality but also increase uptime and improves productivity,"  said Memon.
