In his career spanning over more than 20 years, Bhattacharjee has worked with the Business India Group of Publications, Mumbai and ABP Group of Publications, Kolkata. His last stint was with The Times of India as the head of the group’s Sahibabad plant.

Speaking to PrintWeek India, Bhattacharjee said he is optimistic about the growth of newspapers in India in the coming years. “The newspaper industry is growing, especially in regional newspapers and in tier-three cities and it will continue to do so. I have spent much of my professional life with Manroland printing presses. So, I know what customers will demand from us. It is an advantage for me,” said Bhattacharjee.

Meanwhile, during an interaction with PrintWeek India, the Manroland team has quelled the rumours that it is setting up a manufacturing plant for web offset printing presses in India. However, the company conceded that Manroland is planning to manufacture a few parts of the machine in India with collaboration of Tata in its plant. These parts will be sold only to Indian customers.

Right now, the web offset printing presses manufacturing company’s prime focus is to provide services to newspaper printing facilities, in retrofit, relocation and more automation.

Jörn Gossé, managing director, Manroland Web Systems, said, “Customer focus, high-performance service, and business relationships based on partnership can be best realised with a local organisation. We are reinforcing our local presence on a major market and continuing to support our customers with innovative solutions in offset printing, and trendsetting products for digital workflows and post-press in industrial digital printing.”

Gosse added that as India is the only country globally where newspaper industry is growing, it is the most important market for the company, and Manroland has high expectations from the country.

Manroland Web Systems Germany provides solutions for commercial web offset, newspaper and digital printing. A worldwide sales and service network also markets ancillary printing equipment and pressroom products as well as software products and workflow management systems.
