This along with a number of do’s and don’ts emerged as the thread that runs through a successful business, during the Share-to-Benefit (StB) forum held on 6 July at the PrintWeek India office.

Arun Rawat of Print Services made a presentation of ‘Why and how to retain the right people’.

Rawat focussed on the challenges of ensuring more employees are retained. "Today the printers are indeed different, the challenge of retention is growing. Printers have to be creative in devising strategies that encompass workplace environment; welfare; investment in modern technology; company branding and reputation and training," he said.

Dev Nair expressed that he shares a cordial relationship with his employers. He said that fringe benefits play a large role when someone decides to take a position. He cited an example where an employee, a paster in his company was seeking an advance of Rs one lakh for admission of his daughter to seek admission for a medical course in dentistry. This was four years ago, when the paster drew a salary of Rs 9,000/- per month. "I made arrangements so that he could admit his daughter for the course," Nair said. Today the girl has successfully completed the course.

Rawat said that though he has lowered his turnover, he is successful in terms of profitability. "This stems from a holistic approach to quality, which to a large extent embraces employees ensuring satisfaction with clients and ultimately leads to improved performance.
