The machine can produce sewn books at the speed of 70 books per minute from a minimum size of 90x100x3 mm to a maximum of 320x510x80mm. The machines have been supplied by Indo European Machinery.

Bhuvnesh Seth, managing director, Replika Press said, “We are in the process of automating our post-press segment from the printed sheet collection to the dispatch of the books with automatic labelling on cartons or pallets. In the present scenario, publishers demand add-ons besides ribbon, bookmark insertion, like stickers, holograms, price labels, insertions  to be pasted on book, among several others.

This requires substantial manual labour work. However, the expected time of delivery is short. To say labour is cheap in India, is a myth and to retain semi and unskilled labour is a problem. Therefore, automation increases not only the quality but quantity too.”

Replika is replacing two out of their five folding machines with Stahl machines, which are capable of slitting sheets into two and four-fold folding. With an increased volume of hot-foil stamping, embossing and die-cutting jobs, they have added new foiling machine for soft and hard cover Kolbus PE 311, and an Autobond cover lamination with feeder.

Replika also has plans to go digital and add another eight-colour offset printing press. The book printing company was launched as a hundred percent export oriented unit in 1998 in a small area at Narela, Delhi and. In 2002, they shifted to the Kundali plant. In 2009, the company acquired another 66,000 sq/ft area, which is dedicated to post-press operations.

Replika delivers to international publishers all over the world plsu reputed domestic publishers. “In 2011-12 we have secured 18% growth in export and 26% in domestic with 73% of total turnover is export. In 2012-13 we expect  around 25% growth,” informed Seth.

These financials ensured Replika bagged the Post-Press Company of the Year, for the second time, at the PrintWeek India Awards.
