Pragati Pack sweeps Indiastar Awards

Pragati Pack India was the big winner at the Indiastar 2010 - the national award for packaging excellence, collecting 24 prizes.

One of the awards was for the company's Black Dog product, which also won the coveted PrintWeek India Award and Sappi award, recently.

Other print-pack companies which bagged more than five awards were: ITC with 20, Positive Packaging with eight, Utility Printpack with six and Parikh Packaging with five. Jayna Packaging, specialist in design and fabrication of packaging products won 14 awards.

The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) organised India Star award event was held on 1 October, 2010 in Mumbai where around 400 members of the print-packaging industry were present.

"All of us here at Pragati Pack are ecstatic about winning 24 Indiastar Awards. The best part of the ceremony was receiving the awards along with our complete marketing team and in front of our major customers and co-printers. Also, winning the maximum number of awards amongst the packaging printers reaffirms our commitment to high end packaging in the country," said an elated Hemant Paruchuri, director at Pragati Pack.

Chief guest Ashok Sinha, secretary to the government of India, ministry of food processing industries and guest of honour Keith Pearson, president of World Packaging Organisation along with Dharmatilak Ratnayake, chairman of Srilanka Institute of Packaging gave award the awards.

N C Saha, director of IIP, said: "Packaging plays an important role in modern economy and an essential part of modern way of living. Packaging is literally the product identity. India Star is an initiative which recognises that importance aspect of the packaging business."

Indiastar winning entries qualify to participate in the Asiastar and Worldstar contests. The Asiastar Awards event will be held on 6 October, 2010.

IIP instituted the Indiastar Awards in the year 1972 to promote and encourage excellence in packaging design, innovation and sustainability. The event is held once every two years.
