Pradeep Kumar Unny of Amar Ujala feels the Indian machines are better than the ones produced overseas.

“The local manufacturers understand us and our requirements better. Thus, their services are better,” Unny said. He continued, "Recently, we bought a pre-owned Japan-made heatset web offset press for our commercial printing facility. But, the final output, in terms of quality, is not at par with that on an Indian-make.

For Unny, communication is the key. Unny said every country has its specific lingo and connotations. So, it becomes important how the manufacturers communicate with the operators and the persons in production.

In the newspaper business, Unny said, newsprint is the major cost, while web break remains a major issue. For cost-effective production, Unny cautioned that one should not opt for short-term solutions. “Invest more on labour and technology. Train your workforce. Change the scenario, but gradually.”
